USS West Shore (ID # 3170), 1918-1919.
Was also the civilian freighter West Shore (1918)

USS West Shore , a 12,000-ton (displacement) cargo ship, was built in 1918 at Portland, Oregon, as the civilian freighter of the same name. After completion she steamed to the East Coast, where the U.S. Navy took her over and placed her in commission early in August 1918. On her first Navy voyage she carried vehicles to Brest, France, arriving in mid-October. World War I ended while she was en route back to the U.S., and her next trip was to Rotterdam, Holland, with a cargo of food. USS West Shore returned to New York from this trip in early February 1919. She was decommissioned and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board a month later. The ship, sometimes listed under the name Westshore, remained under that agency's ownership until abandoned in 1929-1930.

Note her pattern camouflage, apparently freshly applied. The ship still carries her guns, and has her name displayed on a board on the face of her lower bridge.
