S.S. West Zucker, a 5808 gross ton (12,186.5 tons displacement) freighter built by the Los Angeles Shipbuilding and Drydock Company of Los Angeles, California, was completed in November 1918. She was turned over to the Navy at that time and placed in commission as USS West Zucker (ID # 3584). Early in January 1919 the ship left the West Coast with a cargo of flour, which she delivered at Hampton Roads, Virginia, in March. Decommissioned late in that month, West Zucker was returned to the U.S. Shipping Board, which retained her until 1933, when she was abandoned.
